I was perusing the Organizational Development group on LinkedIn just now (what an active bunch of 27,000+ people!) and I ran across this document. It’s all about finding one’s purpose, or if you like, one’s calling.
Some people seem to know what they want to do early, practically right out of the chute. Some of us take longer to find our mission in life.
When I was nine years old, I was sure that I would grow up to write and illustrate my own books. I haven’t done that yet. I do write and illustrate a blog or two; I wonder if that would count. (I started blogging anonymously so as not to upset my former employer with my not-so-subtle pokes about how management treated employees. Our internal brand was in tatters, and it showed externally).
I’ve always loved marketing research. Organizational research is fascinating. Measuring progress toward growing an internal brand makes my heart beat faster. What can I say? Some people race cars. Some cook. I like research.
Is O.D. your calling? How do you know?
